Q: What the heck are these freaky dolls? A: Their asian ball jointed dolls. Most people refer to them as BJD's, ABJD's or Super Dollfies (even tho they technically aren't all Super Dollfies, which is a brand name for BJD's from a company called Volks, the first doll maker for this kind of doll). BJD's are made from resin and are jointed and vary from a few inches tall to over 2 feet tall.
Q. So do you make these dolls? A. Nope! I wish
I could sculpt doll like this! I just paint and style them.
Q. Where do you buy these dolls then? A. There's many online shops where you can buy BJD's now (when I stared there was only one place) I recommend visiting Resinality to start to learn about these dolls and where to buy them.
Q. Can you teach me how to paint? / What do you use to paint your dolls? A. Sometime I plan to make a tutorial on how I do repaints but I just haven't had the time. I did do body blushing tutorials for The BJD Orbyrarium book tho. The best advice I can give for now would be to thin your paint properly, there is NO real substitute for Mr Super Clear and always use paints and pastels that are oil free.
Q. I want to commission you. How do I do that? A. Check out my
commissions
page here for info on how to commission me
Q. Will you sell me (insert dolls name here) ? A. Sorry! My dolls are NOT for sale! I only take commissions to paint heads (no I don't sell heads either)
Q. Did you know that your pictures were in print in (insert magazine, book, etc here) ? A. So far the only 3 places that have had my permission to print my pictures for books etc is Haute Doll magazine, FDQ magazine and The BJD Orbyrarium book. I am aware that there have been a few German magazines that have stolen my pictures. I am also aware that my pictures have been stolen and put on stickers, CD's, tarot cards and books. If you see my pictures in print somewheres and its not the places listed above please let me know .
Q. So how come your such a hard ass about having your pictures posted other places? I just want to post a few on my blog, live journal, whatever. A. Actually you
can go right a head and post a few in your blog or whatnot. I don't
actually mind when people share my pics as long as they don't edit
them or crop off my URL. I know I come off kinda bitchy with the warnings
I have on the galleries but that's only because I have my pics stolen
and then put on stuff and sold. Using my pics for commercial purposes
without asking ticks me off, just uploading a few onto your blog of
whatever doesn't .
Q: Can I use your pics for my web site layout, make icons out of them, edit them for some other use? A: Usually I'm cool
with people using my pics for layouts and things. I do appreciate
an email if your going to edit them for something. I like to see what
people create with my pics too. So yes, just email me for an ok first
Q: How did you get into these dolls? A: I used to draw a lot. Back in 2001 I was looking for an anime styled drawing model. I got turned onto the 1/6th dollfies and from there I found Super Dollfies. I had seen my first Super Dollfie back in 1999 and I had fallen in love with it but the web page I saw it on was in Japanese and I cant read Japanese so I just thought it was some type of impossible to get artist doll.
Q: What's up with the weird profile story's? Are you crazy? There dolls! A: Its very common
for BJD owners to have background story's for their dolls. I think
most BJD owners get some kind of a Velveteen Rabbit feeling from their
dolls. For me my dolls are kind of the characters I used to draw and
come to life, so to speak. Plus I think I just have too much time
on my hands
Q: So what doll of yours is your favourite and why? A: Actually I love all my dolls. I think loooong and hard and save up for a good long time to get a doll so I'm not going to just go buy a doll on a whim. I do tend to spoil one doll for a while and then spoil another but really I love them all for different reasons.
Q: Ack! I cant believe you... a) showed a nekkid doll b) swore c) insert something that offended you ...like that! Why no warnings??! A: Sorry!! I'll
try to warn you next time! ...Mebby
Q: Pfft! Your dolls are ugly! You suck at painting! What makes you think that people would pay you to paint their doll? A: hehe! I think
I suck too! To be honest I started doing commissions because no one
else was doing it at the time ( this was years ago now) and I wanted
to play with the different types of BJD and people tend to be afraid
to work on their own dolls. Back then I would of done esthetics for
free but now its turning into a chore for me and it takes me a lot
longer to paint a head because I am a detail freak :D I don't plan
on taking commissions forever but for now I just feel an intense draw
to paint on dolls and if some people want to pay me to do it who am
I to argue?
Q: You must be really board to make up this lame FAQ right? A: You know it XD
Q: You about done for now? A: Uh.. Yuuuup!
